Fair Week 2009

The Demo Derby is a SMASHING success!

Jason Herboth comes off the wall in heat one to win the derby, and the derby and the crowd are picked to star in the independent film Pull. A film crew from New York filmed portions of the derby for use in their film, and the Effingham County deom derby fans should be a part of the film. Meanwhile, on the track the derby saw a compact heat, a post 1980's heat, and something new a truck heat. A fast track made for lots of hard hits on the cars and the retaining walls alike, making for harder hits, more action and quicker heats for a derby that finished earlier than years past. But the fans did not have any complaints since they got to see on of the best derbys in the state! CLICK HERE FOR OVER 300 Pictures!

Kala Bullard was crowned 2009 Miss Effingham County Fair in ceremonies Tuesday night at the fairgrounds at Altamont.

Kala is the 19-year-old daughter of Rick and Tammy Bullard of Altamont. The blonde-haired, blue-eyed queen is attending Lake Land College, majoring in elementary education. She was crowned over 11 other contestants, and will reign over the remainder of this year's fair. She'll also compete in January at the annual Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs in Springfield. If she wins there, she'd reign as 2010 Miss Illinois County Fair and preside over next year's Illinois State Fair and DuQuoin State Fair.

Kala was crowned by retiring queen Kaitlin Hinkle of Teutopolis.

Melissa Mellendorf of Montrose was chosen first runner-up, Jaclyn Barrett of Effingham was second runner-up, and Christin Hartke of Teutopolis was named third runner-up. Anne-Marie Martin won the People's Choice Award and won for the most tickets sold.

The evening featured 31 Little Misses in addition to the 12 queen candidates. Source - Premiere Broadcasting - Greg Sapp

Monday night truck and tractor pull offers exciting action and is rough on the 4 whell drive trucks. With a track that is fast and unforgiving many of the 4 wheel drive truck pulled off a near full pull only to reach the far end of the track where the surface conditions changed and drive trains and other parts could not take the strain!See pictures of the action on Monday Night
